This year we have a special card design by Kura Te Waru-Rewiri, one of Aotearoa New Zealand's most celebrated Māori women artists.

Inspired by the unique Maori art form of abstract rafter paintings called kowhaiwhai, Kura Te Waru Rewiri (Ngapuhi, Ngati Kahu, Ngati Rangi, Ngati Raukawa ki Kauwhata) explores the ebb and flow of contrasting positive and negative space to explore depth.

Titled ‘Puhoro Meets the Stripes III’, this work references the dominance of male practitioners who draw on or replicate kowhaiwhai designs as a status symbol. 

Kura has also collaborated with our partners at Specsavers to create limited edition frames. $25 from each pair sold will go towards restoring sight in the Pacific.

An estimated 9 out of 10 people who are blind don’t need to be; their condition is preventable or treatable.

Your gift will help us to not only restore sight, but train local eye health specialists to provide eye care services in their own communities, strengthen local health systems, and support research that will help us to better understand and deliver on current and future eye care needs.
